Getting Started
Starting something new can feel a little overwhelming, but we're here to help.
Whether you're studying on campus, online, as an apprentice or trainee, there are a few important things to set up before classes begin. This includes accessing your student email, logging into the Student Portal, becoming familiar with Blackboard and making sure you can connect to campus WiFi if required. Important dates, student guides and reference materials can be accessed through the Publications, Resources & Policy Hub and other areas of the Student Hub.
The Student Hub is designed to be your starting point and your go-to resource throughout your studies.
If you need login instructions, setup guides or other student resources, these are available through the Publications, Resources & Policy Hub.
Your student account provides access to the systems you'll use throughout your studies, including the Student Portal, Office 365 and Blackboard.
If you're bringing your own device to campus, WiFi setup guides are available to help you get connected quickly so you can access learning resources, online systems and student services.
A Unique Student Identifier, known as a USI, is required for students undertaking nationally recognised training.
Your USI securely records your training and qualifications and stays with you throughout your education and career. If you don't already have a USI, assistance is available to help you create one.
Staying Connected
The systems below help you stay connected to your studies, your lecturers and the information you need throughout your training.
The Student Portal is your central hub for managing your studies.
You can view your timetable, enrolment details, payment information, academic records and important notices, all from one place. The Student Portal also provides access to Blackboard and other study-related systems.
Students can update personal information, review enrolment details, monitor academic progress and stay informed about important communications from Central Regional TAFE.
Current students may also be able to manage enrolments, re-enrol into future studies where available and access information about additional training opportunities through the portal.
Logging In
To access the Student Portal, select the Student Portal button and choose Log on Using Office 365. Enter your student email address and password, then complete multi-factor authentication if prompted.
If you need assistance, contact us on 1800 672 700.
All Central Regional TAFE students receive a TAFE WA email account and access to Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneDrive.
Your student email account is the primary way we communicate important information and is used to access many student systems and online learning resources.
Student passwords expire every six months and should be updated regularly to maintain access to your online accounts.
Please note that access to your student email account and any content stored within it will cease once you are no longer enrolled with Central Regional TAFE.
Your student login details are used across multiple Central Regional TAFE systems.
For the Student Portal, your username is your student ID.
For Office 365 and Microsoft services, your username is your student email address in the format:
If you have forgotten your password, you can use the Microsoft Password Reset service to reset your password for both Office 365 and the Student Portal.
Student passwords expire every six months. Password changes affect all student systems, including Office 365, Blackboard and the Student Portal, so keeping your details current helps ensure uninterrupted access to your studies.
Multi-factor authentication helps protect your account and keeps your student information secure.
Students may be required to verify their identity using Microsoft Authenticator when accessing Office 365 and other online systems. Setup guides are available for different devices and access preferences.
Blackboard is the primary online learning platform used for many courses and provides access to learning resources, assessments, announcements and communication from lecturers.
Depending on your course, you may also use additional platforms such as Catapult, MyECC or LinkedIn Learning. Your lecturer will advise which systems are required and how they will be used throughout your training.
If you're having difficulty accessing your online systems, first check that your student email address and password are correct. If course materials are missing, contact your lecturer to confirm your enrolment.
For password resets, technical assistance or help accessing online resources, contact us on 1800 672 700 or email enquiries@crtafe.wa.edu.au.

Successful study is about more than completing assessments. Building good habits, staying organised and knowing where to find support can help you feel more confident throughout your training journey.
Planning ahead is one of the best ways to stay on track. Using a calendar or planner to manage assessment due dates, study sessions and personal commitments can help reduce stress and make your workload feel more manageable.
Good note-taking can also improve your learning. Using headings, key words, summaries and diagrams can help you organise information, identify important concepts and remember what you have learned. If you come across unfamiliar terms or concepts, make a note and discuss them with your lecturer.
Finding the right study environment can make a big difference. Some students prefer studying at home, while others work better in the library or on campus. Understanding what helps you focus can make your study time more effective and productive.
Make the most of the tools available to support your learning, including the Student Portal, Blackboard, Library Services and Microsoft 365 applications. These resources can help you access course materials, manage your studies and stay connected with your lecturers and classmates.
Consistency is often more effective than last-minute cramming. Attending classes regularly, setting aside dedicated study time each week and seeking help early when you need it can improve your confidence and learning outcomes.
It is also important to understand academic expectations, including referencing, plagiarism and the appropriate use of AI tools. If you are unsure about course requirements, speak with your lecturer or access support through Library Services.
Looking after your wellbeing is an important part of student success. Making time for rest, exercise, social connection and healthy routines can help you stay focused, motivated and ready to learn. Whether you're studying for the first time or returning to education after a break, support is available to help you build confidence, strengthen your study skills and achieve your goals.
Accommodation options may be available for eligible students studying away from home.
Residential Services provide a safe and supportive environment for students completing their training and are particularly valuable for students travelling from regional and remote communities.
International students have access to a range of support services designed to help them settle into life and study in Australia.
Support may include advice relating to accommodation, study, wellbeing and student life, helping students get the most out of their experience at Central Regional TAFE.
More Than Just Study
Being a student at Central Regional TAFE is about more than attending classes. Whether you're studying for a few weeks or several years, the friendships, experiences and connections you build can be just as valuable as the qualification you gain.
It's about being part of a learning community, building connections, gaining new experiences and making the most of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
Across our campuses in the Midwest, Gascoyne, Goldfields and Wheatbelt regions, students become part of communities that support learning, connection and personal growth.
Depending on your campus, you may have access to libraries, study spaces, student accommodation, Jobs and Skills Centres, Aboriginal Learning Centres, cafes, training restaurants, student salons, galleries, computer labs and specialised teaching facilities.
These spaces help create an environment that supports learning, connection and wellbeing while providing opportunities to develop practical skills in real-world settings.
Library Services support students across all campuses through a combination of physical and online resources.
Students can access study guides, referencing assistance, subject-specific resources, research support, study spaces, computer facilities, printing services and online learning materials designed to assist throughout their studies.
There is always something happening at Central Regional TAFE.
Throughout the year students can participate in a variety of events and activities including Open Days, graduation ceremonies, student awards, WorldSkills competitions, NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week activities, information sessions, expos and student social events.
