If you need a little extra support while you are at TAFE, we are here to help.

 

Support Services

Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes, so if you find yourself in need of assistance, know that help is available. All students at Central Regional TAFE can access our range of student support services, including:

Learning Support

Studying can be full-on, especially if you have not done it before or are out of practice. If you need help with studying, completing assignments or organisation, our student learning support team are here. All students can access learning support, including help with: 

  • Assignments and writing essays
  • Finding reliable resources and referencing
  • Study skills
  • Organisation and time management skills
  • Technical Support

Library services and online learning resources are available to all students. If you have any issues accessing or using our online resources including Student Portal, please get in touch with our technical support team using the details at the bottom of this page. 

Counselling Service for Current Students

Central Regional TAFE Students have access to a FREE confidential counselling service through our Student Assistance Program provider PeopleSense.

PeopleSense employ clinical and registered psychologists who are experienced in providing psychological counselling and therapy. This service is available to all domestic and international students, regardless of study mode. To access this service, please contact Student.Services@crtafe.wa.edu.au to arrange a referral.

Career Services and Guidance

If you need career advice or help with job searching, try our free Jobs and Skills Centres at our Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Northam campuses. These centres offer free services for the whole community, including TAFE students and graduates. 

The services in the Jobs and Skills Centres for individuals include: 

  • information and guidance in making career choices;
  • training and course information; 
  • help choosing the right training course or qualification to suit your goals;
  • information about different occupations and industries;
  • assistance with searching for the right job;
  • employment and career services for Aboriginal people;
  • information about skills and qualifications; and
  • assistance with apprenticeship and traineeships.

Aboriginal Student Support

At Central Regional TAFE, we want to support and engage Aboriginal people in our local communities to achieve their full potential.

Through strong community partnerships and with the support of various local organisations we are able to assist Aboriginal students with a variety of services and programs including:

  • First point of contact for Aboriginal students
  • Aboriginal Designated Placement Program
  • Tucker Program
  • Training advice and guidance
  • Employment, career pathways and planning
  • Referrals to external support agencies
  • Cultural matters and personal issues
  • Aboriginal Tuition and Mentoring Program
  • Aboriginal Student Scholarships Program
  • Inductions for students
  • Child care information.
  • ABSTUDY and Centrelink matters.
  • Case management
  • Fee debt payment options & advice (i.e. investigate options such as Native Title Funding)

Disability Support

We are committed to providing every opportunity for all of our students to access the full range of training delivery and assessment services we offer at Central Regional TAFE. Access, equity and inclusivity are part of our approach to all of our programs and services, and we understand that specific strategies may be required to assist some students.

Our Equity and Access Inclusion Officer provides support for students with:

  • A sensory impairment
  • An intellectual or learning disability
  • A neurological disability
  • A physical disability
  • A cognitive disability
  • A psychiatric disability

The support includes:

  • Pre-course counselling
  • Assistance with course selection and enrolment
  • Assistance with identifying the most appropriate classroom support and assessment modifications
  • Access to in-class support, adaptive technologies and specialised equipment

International Student Support

If you are far from home, there is support for you at Central Regional TAFE. Our dedicated International Student Coordinator and Student Support teams are available for all of our international students. Just call us on 1800 672 700, or +61 8 9956 2700 if calling from overseas, or visit Student Services at your local campus.

In addition to our student inductions, we hold an orientation day for our international students to provide you with tips about living, studying and working in Australia. You will also get the opportunity to meet the staff and familiarise yourself with your local campus and town before commencing your studies.
