Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Student Support

Acknowledgement of Country

Central Regional TAFE respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country where all of our campuses and learning activities take place and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture.

We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

We also respectfully acknowledge the Country, family and cultural values of all our Aboriginal students who travel to learn with us.

Customised Courses and Services

We offer a range of flexible programs for Aboriginal people as they work towards their career and employment goals.

Central Regional TAFE has an Aboriginal Designated Placement Program which means we offer a range of courses with designated places for Aboriginal students. To be eligible, you will have to meet the course entry requirements but won’t be required to apply through the official TAFE Admissions application process.

Aboriginal Learning Centre

The Aboriginal Learning Centre is at the physical and cultural heart of our Geraldton Campus. The centre is a welcoming learning space and provides support for Aboriginal students to fulfil their career and learning potential.

The centre also plays a crucial role in sharing Aboriginal culture with the TAFE as a whole. Throughout the year it holds social, cultural and educational activities and events for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.

Financial Help

Are you keen to study or undergo training but aren’t sure how you will pay for it? You might qualify for financial help, flexible payment solutions or a scholarship. At Central Regional TAFE, we want training to be affordable and accessible for everyone. Read more about the financial solutions we offer here.

As an Aboriginal student, you might be eligible for ABSTUDY from Centrelink which is financial help from the government. Learn more about applying for ABSTUDY on the Centrelink website(opens in a new tab) .
