This qualification is best assessed in the context of this sector’s work environment.

All trainees must attend a two-week group induction process where they complete site specific inductions associated with the workplace as well as specific workshops outlining the assessment requirements.  Once the induction is completed, trainees will work one on one with their allocated site trainer and spend the next twelve months working through the units identified in their traineeship. 

No specific time frame is allocated for each unit due to the training being carried out on a live work site.  Traineeships are delivered under competency-based training.  This means there is a nominal term (24 months) and not a fixed period of training.  The nominal term indicates the expected length of time a qualification can be completed. Under competency-based training, the actual time taken to complete a Traineeship may vary and takes into account factors such as the Trainee's prior experience and training, the intensity of training during the Traineeship and other factors.  Extensions for additional time can be requested by the employer through the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) website.  It is important to note that students participating in this qualification as a Trainee will be working 12-hour days on a two and one roster.

Training will be integrated to the job role to reflect site operations. Training Supervisors based at each site are responsible for the overall supervision of trainees, however they will work under direction from a number of designated Trainer Assessor and Subject Matter Experts (SME) relative to the plant and equipment they are training in.

BHP require all new starters to complete site-specific training and VOCs prior to independent operation of any plant and equipment.  All hours are required for site WHS purposes are recorded in their logbook. Completion of inductions and VOCs are recorded in BHPs internal Learning Management System (LMS).

Individual unit assessments distributes by CR TAFE are summative and will be carried out at the end of the training period to confirm consistent performance can be applied in a range of relevant workplace circumstances.

A live tracking document accessible by relevant site and CR TAFE staff will track trainee’s progress, contacts and completion of individual units.  

Certification

Upon successful completion you will receive a Certificate III in Resource Processing.
