A rewarding career working with youth

This is the qualification you need to set yourself up for a rewarding career as a youth worker, youth support worker, or caseworker. You will gain the knowledge and skills to communicate and work effectively in the youth sector; promoting social, emotional and physical wellbeing.

You will also learn how to respond to critical situations; work with youth at risk; assist collective action; and work with cultural diversity, and gain an understanding of ethical behaviour and legal responsibilities for working in youth services. 

Informed choices - is this course right for me? 

Prior to enrolment into this qualification, please consider:

  • Your level of communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to attend on campus classes four days per week and commit to study, for research and assessments outside the scheduled class times.
  • Your ability to study units and perform practical demonstrations/role plays on the following topics: family and domestic violence, trauma, alcohol and other drug use, mental health issues, etc that may be confronting or cause distress
  • If you have the following attributes:
    • Respectful, resilient, empathetic and have a positive outlook
    • A non-judgmental attitude and ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Able to exercise initiative
    • Leadership qualities
    • Able to build positive relationships with multi-disciplinary teams
