Acceptance by TAFE online admissions or by negotiation with lecturer

Learners require a level of Literacy and Numeracy agreeable with recommendations as stated in each unit (where applicable) and specified in UEE Vol.2, Part 3 ‘Literacy and Numeracy’ (It characterises how participants are to be best equipped to achieve the relevant unit, in terms of reading, writing and numeracy skill levels.)

Training Package Units (UEE) generally recommend a level of 3 for LLN requirements.

A minimum of 150 hours of work placement is required to be completed and recorded as stipulated in the DTWD pre-apprenticeship program business rules 2021.

There is a work placement component required in the course. Placement is arranged by lecturers. A Pre-Apprentice Electrical Training Licence is required for work placement. This application is completed under supervision of lecturers in the first week of the course.

Whilst not assessable, the work placement hours and description of work is to be recorded in a logbook and verified by work place supervisor.

This experience exposes the learner to the work and environment of industry and assists with the learner’s progression through the courses units and ultimately their career decision. This also helps to connect learners with potential future employers and builds industry relationships.

This qualification has been replaced and is currently in a teach-out period. Students will be informed by their lecturer whether they will be required to transition to the current qualification. In this case, there may be some non‑equivalences where students may need to complete additional units or gap training.

Licensing, Legislation and Regulation Requirements

In accordance with Department of Commerce W.A. – Energy Safety requirements A Pre-Apprentice Electrical Training Licence is required for the work placement component of the course. This requires 100 points of ID to be supplied and a fit and proper statutory declaration or police check to be attached to the application.

Certification

Upon successful completion, students will be issued with a qualification.
