Yarning Opening Day Welcomes Community at Moora Campus
21 May 2025

Central Regional TAFE’s Moora Campus proudly hosted its first Yarning Opening Day on Wednesday 21 May, bringing together Yued Noongar Elders, students, and community members to connect, share stories, and explore future learning opportunities.

While attendance was modest, the event fostered a strong sense of connection and purpose. Over a warm cuppa, Elders and students engaged in meaningful conversations, learning about the courses available and the pathways open to them through CR TAFE.

Yued Noongar Elder Glenda Mippy expressed excitement about returning to study, saying:
“I will be coming back to do the 8-week computer course. It was good to fill in the paperwork and have a yarn about the courses.”

Fellow Elder Robeta Mippy added:
“Very good yarn — we are happy.”
"I appreciate today as it made me feel included it was lovely to be invited to this session and I hope we can do it more often"

Another Elder, Dianne Mippy, reflected on the value of these gatherings, noting:
“It was great, but we need more young people, not just us oldies. It’s good to get out of the house.”

This inaugural event marked an important step in strengthening ties with the local community and reaffirmed Moora Campus’s commitment to cultural connection, inclusion, and lifelong learning. Central Regional TAFE looks forward to hosting more community-led events in the future.
