Kick off 2025 Career Taster Programs at the Wheatbelt Campus!

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

The Career Taster Program has officially commenced in the Wheatbelt region, offering Year 9 students a unique opportunity to explore various career paths and stay engaged in their education. With 28 experiences already planned and more in the works, the programme aims to broaden students' horizons and help them begin their career exploration journey.

The Career Taster Programme is designed to:

  1. Keep students engaged in schooling.
  2. Allow students to begin their career exploration.
  3. Broaden students' horizons.

The programme has garnered significant support from local industries, with organisations either visiting the TAFE College or hosting students at various sites across the Wheatbelt. This collaboration has been positively received by the community, highlighting the importance of industry involvement in educational initiatives.

As the programme continues to grow, organisers are eager to engage with more industries interested in participating. The programme also emphasises the value of both paid and unpaid roles within the community, showcasing the rewarding nature of volunteer work.

A highlight of the programme was a visit from the St John Ambulance - York Sub Centre team. They shared their career pathways and the rewarding work they do, inspiring students with their stories. The team demonstrated various skills, including taking pulse rates, first aid, and CPR. Students also had the chance to test the lights and new lifting equipment in the back of an ambulance.

One of the key messages conveyed to the students was the importance of determination and the different pathways available to achieve their goals. The St John Ambulance team emphasised that with passion and perseverance, success is attainable.

The Career Taster Programme continues to build momentum, and organisers are excited about the future possibilities and the positive impact it will have on the students and the community.
