Kalgoorlie Culinary Student Shines at Nestlé Golden Hat Competition
Central Regional TAFE is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Cassianne Kennedy, whose culinary journey reached an exciting new milestone with a Silver Medal at the prestigious Nestlé Golden Hat Competition, held at North Metropolitan TAFE.
Representing our Kalgoorlie Campus, Cassianne competed against some of the most talented emerging chefs in Western Australia in a challenging, high-pressure environment that demanded precision, speed, creativity, and composure. The Nestlé Golden Hat Competition is recognised as one of the state’s most respected culinary events, providing students with an opportunity to showcase their skills to leading industry professionals.
Cassianne impressed the panel of judges with her refined technique, balanced flavours, and ability to plate dishes that looked as stunning as they tasted. Under the expert mentorship of Chef Lecturer Andrew Monks, she demonstrated remarkable focus and artistry. Her achievement was made even more impressive as she competed while recovering from a recent injury, showing resilience and determination that truly set her apart. Her award-winning menu was a celebration of contemporary Australian cuisine, with a main course of seared beef rump complemented by pepper berry cream, sautéed greens, and carrot purée, followed by a dessert of wattle seed vanilla mousse with pistachio shortbread and salted brittle. Each dish showcased her technical mastery, creative vision, and ability to integrate native ingredients into dishes of restaurant quality standard.
“This achievement is a testament to Cassianne’s passion and perseverance,” said Andrew Monks. “She’s a rising star in the culinary world, and we’re incredibly proud of her.”
Cassianne’s Silver Medal win not only reflects her personal talent and dedication but also highlights the high standard of training available at Central Regional TAFE and the impact of hands-on mentorship. Her success is an inspiration to other aspiring chefs across regional WA, proving that world-class culinary talent can be nurtured locally. It is also a shining example of how you can train where you live, build real skills, and shape a future that works for you — right here at Central Regional TAFE.
Joanne Payne, Managing Director of Central Regional TAFE, shared her congratulations:
