Central Regional TAFE Goldfields Hosts Dynamic Trades and Information Day at Kalgoorlie Campus
Central Regional TAFE’s Kalgoorlie Campus came alive in September as it welcomed students, industry partners, and the wider community to its Apprentice and Trainee Trades and Information Day — a vibrant showcase of opportunity, innovation, and industry connection.
Held in the campus’s state-of-the-art new heavy plant and auto electrical trades training facility, the event was split into two key sessions designed to engage both current students and future apprentices.
The first session of the day was the Trades Expo. Central Regional TAFE opened its doors to suppliers, industry representatives, apprentices, and TAFE staff.
Dozens of attendees explored interactive displays, chatted with local suppliers, and gained insights into the latest tools, technologies, and career pathways in the trades. Industry partners hosted merchandise and information tables, creating a bustling hub of information, activity and networking.
A strong focus on safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) was on display throughout the Expo, with suppliers showcasing the latest in safety gear and best practices.
Students and visitors were reminded of the importance of workplace safety, and the role PPE plays in protecting trades professionals on the job.
The afternoon transitioned into a community-focused Apprenticeship and Traineeship Information Session, aimed at Year 12 leavers, secondary students, and job seekers from across the Goldfields.
Attendees had the chance to speak directly with Apprenticeship Connect Providers, who were on hand to answer questions and guide individuals through the process of starting a career in trades.
The event also offered an opportunity for the public and stakeholders to tour the newly developed training facilities — an innovative space designed to support hands-on learning and industry-relevant skill development.
Central Regional TAFE Managing Director Jo Payne said the event was a first for the Kalgoorlie Campus, bringing the public into the new trades training facility and linking industry and recruiters with potential apprentices, trainees, and job seekers.
“Opening this amazing training facility up for the Expo enables local people, especially young people, to see the quality of equipment and resources available for training in Kalgoorlie.
“Our connections with industry are central to the way we deliver training and how we ensure skilled workers are ready for the jobs of the future. The support of so many local businesses, employers and suppliers for this event has been fantastic.
“Industry engagement events such as the Expo build networks, and help people connect with potential employers, find jobs, or enter a training pathway, and skill up for employment.
“We look forward to inviting the people of Kalgoorlie and surrounds back to our Kalgoorlie campus for another Apprentice and Traineeship Information session in the future.”
Central Regional TAFE Goldfields continues to strengthen its ties with local industry and community, ensuring students are equipped with the tools and connections they need to thrive in the workforce.
