Outstanding Achievements Celebrated at Central Regional TAFE Goldfields Graduation.

Central Regional TAFE (CR TAFE) Kalgoorlie hosted the 2024 Graduation and Awards Ceremony at the Goldfields Learning Centre in Kalgoorlie on Wednesday 2 April, celebrating the achievements of graduates and recognising Major Award winners across a range of study areas.

In 2024, close to 2,100 students completed their training with CR TAFE across all nine campuses, including over 366 students graduating with qualifications in the Goldfields region. Six students were named recipients of Major Awards.

Goldfields Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year, sponsored by BHP, was awarded to Jacquelyn McCoy who graduated with a Diploma of Counselling. Jacquelyn engages with individuals facing significant mental health challenges, often with little to no support, and works collaboratively with other agencies to provide the best possible care.

Goldfields Apprentice of the Year, sponsored by Northern Star Mining Services, was awarded to Zien Carruth, who completed a Certificate III in Carpentry. Zien exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding apprentice and community member. His hard work, dedication, and unwavering support for those around him make him a deserving recipient of this award.

Goldfields Cultural Diversity Training Award, sponsored by Lynas Rare Earth, was presented to Mary Ann Lauretta, who graduated with a Certificate IV in Mental Health and a Diploma of Counselling. Mary Ann embodies true grit and persistence. Her kind approach to serving the community makes her an all-rounder who inspires those around her.

Goldfields Trainee of the Year, sponsored by Evolution Mining, was presented to Nicole Stone, who completed a Certificate IV in Business. Nicole consistently showed a genuine desire to learn and grow, never hesitating to ask questions and apply the advice she received. Her employer frequently praised her improved confidence, ability, and positive attitude toward her work.

Goldfields Vocational Student of the Year, sponsored by Evolution Mining, was awarded to Linda Larbi, who graduated with a Certificate IV in Community Services. Linda currently serves as a member of the Multicultural Community Board, and is a member of the local African Community, where she advocates and supports community members. Linda also has a talk show on her YouTube channel.

Goldfields International Student of the Year, sponsored by Natrad, was presented to Giselle Vergara, who graduated with a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Giselle’s enthusiasm for learning is infectious, and she consistently elevates the learning experience for everyone with her insightful questions and thoughtful contributions.

CR TAFE Acting Managing Director, Karen Watts, praised students for their commitment and achievements throughout the year.

“Central Regional TAFE’s Graduation and Awards events are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our students’ successes. In 2024, we saw students from all campuses excel beyond expectations throughout their learning journey,” Ms Watts said.

“CR TAFE students continue to impress with their dedication and determination to complete their training. Their accomplishments set them on solid pathways for future careers and inspire others in their community to follow their lead.”

“We would like to congratulate all our graduates and award winners for their hard work, and we wish them every success in their future careers.”

Ms Watts also acknowledged the positive impact of CR TAFE graduates on the region:

“More than 360 qualified and job-ready graduates are now equipped to add value to local Goldfields businesses — bringing their skills to the care sector, the agricultural industry, early childhood education and care, local government, automotive and engineering businesses, and many more areas.”

“These are more than 360 people ready to advance their own employment or further study goals — to pursue their aspirations.”

“Sometimes people are surprised at just how wide the range of courses is at their local TAFE.”

CR TAFE would like to acknowledge and thank our 2024 sponsors and industry partners. Their generous support makes these awards possible and contributes significantly to the strength of training in the Goldfields region.
