Work Safely at Heights & in Confined Spaces

This Skill Set covers the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights and to enter and work in confined spaces within the resources and infrastructure industries.

It is intended for those in operational roles who typically work under supervision to carry out a prescribed range of tasks using known routines and procedures, while taking responsibility for the quality of their work outcomes.

This course is being offered in response to industry demand. It is suitable for people looking to enter the mining and construction industries, as well as those working in agriculture. The course is delivered face to face.

Students must:

  • Be free from the influence of drugs and alcohol
  • Have a reasonable level of fitness (to undertake climbing and crawling)
  • Not exceed more than 140kg* (due to equipment rated at max 140kg)
  • Provide and wear PPE including:
    - Closed in shoes (steel capped boots preferred)
    - Safety glasses
    - Dust masks (provided)

  • Secondary school aged persons (in 2026, students born on or after 1 July 2008 who are at least 15 years old in 2026) undertaking training that is not part of a VET Delivered to Secondary Schools program, the maximum course (tuition) fee chargeable is $420. Additional resource fees and discretionary fees may apply.
  • VET Student Loans for eligible courses and fee caps may be subject to changes implemented by the Australian Government.
