Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck Skill Set
Gain the skills and knowledge to safely operate a forklift truck
As per national guidelines students will learn how to conduct routine checks, proper shifting of a load and how to correctly shutdown and secure a forklift.

This course is fee free* for residents of Western Australia.
Some eligibility conditions apply for the fee free training and other fees may apply for some courses. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.

Forklift is considered high risk work and you will attain the skills required to maneuver goods in a variety of industries including manufacturing, transport, mining and production industries.
Please note:
A WorkSafe fee of $90 will apply to this course.
Important information
RTO Requirements
- WorkSafe requires the participants to be a minimum of 18 years on the date of assessment to obtain a High-Risk Licence.
- It is expected that students will have basic English reading and writing skills to be able to read and understand the course materials including the National Assessment Instrument which must be completed in writing. Interpreters are not allowed in this course as per NAI (National Assessment Instrument) Assessment Guidelines for Persons Performing High Risk Work.
- It is expected that students will have basic maths skills which are essential to be able to complete the training and assessment as Calculations is a large component of the theory assessment that involves maths.
- Students who may require additional support are encouraged to discuss this with the lecturer prior to commencing the course and/or during the course. The lecturer will discuss and put in place relevant support for learners.
- Students need to be able to get on and off the forklift using three points of contact, without assistance.
- Students are required to wear appropriate PPE which the student will need to supply including:
- enclosed footwear (steel capped boots preferable)
- long pants and long-sleeved shirt

Students will need:
- Enclosed footwear (steel capped boots preferable)
- Long pants and long sleeved shirt
- Students must be able to provide one primary photo ID as per applicant guide issued by WorkSafe WA (Refer to Department of Commerce WA website under Application for a High Risk Work Licence(opens in a new tab) ). The primary photo ID can be either a driver's licence or a passport. They may also be required to provide a coloured passport photo.

Certification
Upon successful completion of this course you will obtain a Statement of Attainment.
To receive your High-Risk Licence, you will need to apply through WorkSafe WA. An interim licence card will be provided upon completion to allow forklift operation until the WorkSafe application is processed.

- This unit is based on the licensing requirements of Part 4.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations and meets Commonwealth, State and Territory HRWL requirements.
