It is the perfect stepping stone to start your career in Early Childhood Education and Care, preparing you for further training.

When choosing a course, it's important to think about the key skills and knowledge you'll need, as well as how you'll be assessed. Take a look at this information and consider if you might face any challenges in meeting the course expectations and requirements. 

  • Be able to work with others and relate to and respect people from a range of ages, cultures and backgrounds 
  • Have a kind and enthusiastic nature to work with young children birth to 5 years and their families. 
  • Excellent observational skills - to be able to identify changes in behaviour, abilities and environment 
  • Good communication skills to liaise/work with a range of people 
  • Have sound computer skills 
  • Good listening and writing skills 
  • Be able to deal with physical demands of manual tasks. A good fitness level to be able to lift children and child care equipment 
  • Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to immediate safety risks 
  • Tolerance, patience and the willingness to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures 
  • Be able to undertake mandatory work placement outside of schedule classes 90 hours in total with workplace tasks to complete. 
  • Be able to obtain a Work with Children clearance and the Education Departments Criminal History Check (over 18s)
