Scholarships and Student Awards

Central Regional TAFE Major Student Awards recognise outstanding students who have demonstrated excellence throughout their training journey.

Award categories may include Apprentice of the Year, Trainee of the Year, Vocational Student of the Year, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year, International Student of the Year, Cultural Diversity Training Award and School-Based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year.

These awards celebrate students who show commitment, skill, resilience and achievement in their chosen course or industry area. They also recognise the important role of sponsors, employers, lecturers and support networks in helping students succeed.

Student award nominations are usually submitted by lecturers, employers, training teams, VET Coordinators, teachers or other approved stakeholders.

Nominees may be assessed on their training achievements, workplace performance, commitment to learning, leadership, community involvement, industry contribution, personal growth and ability to represent Central Regional TAFE and vocational education and training positively.

Depending on the award category, students may also be asked to participate in interviews, provide supporting information or submit additional documentation.

For school-based awards, nominations may require endorsement from schools, employers, parents or guardians where applicable.

The nomination and assessment process is designed to be fair, transparent and inclusive, while recognising excellence across regions, industries and training areas. 

Central Regional TAFE recognises students across multiple campuses, programs and study areas.

Recent award recipients have been recognised across areas including Counselling and Community Services, Nursing, Animal Care, Electrotechnology, Commercial Cookery, Carpentry, Workplace Skills, Early Childhood Education and Care, Agricultural Mechanical Technology, and Building and Construction.

Recipients have progressed through vocational education into apprenticeships, traineeships, employment, further study and industry pathways.

Their achievements highlight the opportunities that practical, industry-connected training can create across regional Western Australia.

The Midwest and Gascoyne VETDSS Awards recognise excellence in secondary students undertaking vocational education and training programs across the Midwest and Gascoyne regions.

The awards celebrate student achievement and highlight the value of VETDSS programs in helping young people build confidence, develop practical skills and explore future career pathways.

They also recognise the local businesses and employers who support students by providing work placement opportunities and helping them experience real workplace settings.

An awards evening is usually held each year to celebrate students, schools, employers and industry partners involved in the VETDSS program.

For schools, the VETDSS Awards provide an opportunity to recognise student achievement and showcase the value of vocational education and training programs.

For businesses and employers, the awards recognise the important role industry plays in supporting students, developing future workers and strengthening regional workforce pathways.

Student category award winners may receive a gift voucher and framed certificate recognising their achievement. Finalists are also recognised as part of the awards event.

The overall VETDSS Student of the Year Award recognises an outstanding Year 11 or Year 12 student from across the nominated categories.

Student nominations for the Midwest and Gascoyne VETDSS Awards may be submitted by teachers, trainers, VET Coordinators or host employers in the Midwest or Gascoyne region.

Employer nominations may be submitted by school staff, parents or guardians, students or Central Regional TAFE employees involved in the VETDSS program.

All nominations must meet the relevant eligibility criteria and be submitted in the correct category. For student nominations, approval may be required from the student’s School Principal and parent or guardian.

Depending on the scholarship, support may assist with course-related expenses, equipment, tools, technology, travel, accommodation, study materials or other approved study-related costs.

Each scholarship has its own application process and eligibility requirements.

Applications generally require supporting information about your study plans, career goals or personal circumstances. Details will be included with each scholarship opportunity when applications are open. 

Scholarships are generally not loans and do not usually need to be repaid.

Any conditions associated with a scholarship will be outlined in the scholarship guidelines.

Student award recipients are selected through a nomination and assessment process.
