Support when you need it
Your wellbeing is an important part of your learning journey.
At Central Regional TAFE, we are committed to supporting the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of our students. We want every student to feel welcomed, included, respected and supported throughout their time with us.
Studying, working, family commitments and life changes can sometimes feel overwhelming. Whatever challenges you may be facing, support is available.
Looking after your wellbeing can help you stay connected, build confidence and make the most of your study experience. At Central Regional TAFE, student success is about more than achieving a qualification. It's about having the support, skills and confidence to achieve your goals.
Looking after your wellbeing
Everyone experiences challenges from time to time.
Whether you're feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed or simply need someone to talk to, reaching out for support is a positive step. Central Regional TAFE encourages students to seek help early and access the support available to them.
Our goal is to help students feel supported so they can focus on achieving their study, training and career goals.
Mental health challenges can affect anyone and may impact the way you think, feel or respond to everyday situations. Conditions such as anxiety, depression and other mental health concerns can affect concentration, motivation, attendance and your ability to manage study, work and personal commitments.
You may notice changes in sleep, energy levels, mood, motivation, personal wellbeing or your ability to manage everyday tasks. Life circumstances such as financial pressures, relationship challenges, housing stress or study demands can also affect your wellbeing.
Seeking support early can make a significant difference. With the right support, many students successfully manage challenges and continue working towards their study and career goals.
You don't need to wait until things feel overwhelming.
If your wellbeing is affecting your studies, relationships, work or daily life, talking to someone can make a difference.
Seeking support early can help you manage challenges, build resilience and stay focused on your goals.
Student Assistance Program
Central Regional TAFE students can access support through our Student Assistance Program (SAP). The program provides access to confidential counselling through an external provider and is designed to support students experiencing personal or wellbeing challenges.
Students can access up to three free counselling appointments with a registered psychologist through PeopleSense.
To access the service, request a referral from any Central Regional TAFE staff member. They can connect you with Student Support Services and assist you with the referral process. Students under 18 will require parent or guardian consent as part of the referral process.
Once Student Support Services has confirmed your referral, you can contact PeopleSense directly to arrange an appointment. If you do not attend or cancel your appointment within 24 hours, you may be responsible for the appointment cost.
The Student Assistance Program provides a safe and supportive space for students seeking help.
Accessing support is confidential and designed to help students manage challenges, strengthen coping strategies and support their overall wellbeing while studying.
Additional support and resources
Support is available both within Central Regional TAFE and through a range of trusted services and organisations.
If you are looking for information, advice or support, the WA Mental Health Commission's Think Mental Health website and the Australian Government's Head to Health website provide access to trusted mental health information, support services, online tools and resources.
These services can help you better understand mental health and wellbeing, access support options and connect with services that meet your individual needs.
Sometimes challenges affecting wellbeing extend beyond study.
Support may also be available for housing, financial wellbeing, community services, health care, food assistance and other personal circumstances through a range of Western Australian support services and community organisations.

Mental and physical wellbeing often go hand in hand.
Regular physical activity, healthy sleep habits and maintaining a balanced lifestyle can positively support your wellbeing, study success and quality of life. Additional information and resources are available through the Australian Government Department of Health.
LGBTQIA+ support
Central Regional TAFE recognises and supports the diversity of our student community.
If you need support related to identity, inclusion, safety, discrimination, harassment or wellbeing, help is available. Students can speak with Student Support Services, access external support organisations or use the feedback and complaints process if they feel unsafe or unsupported.
External support services may include peer support, family support, mental health resources, advocacy and community services for LGBTQIA+ people and their families.
