We're incredibly proud to announce that our Heavy Vehicle Driving Course has taken home the ‘Power of TAFE Partnerships’ Award at the TAFE Directors Australia Convention in Brisbane this week.
This recognition means so much because it reflects the hard work of everyone involved in building something genuinely impactful from the ground up.
A huge thank you to our incredible partners at Western Roads Federation, whose industry expertise and shared vision made this pilot program possible at the start. And congratulations to all finalists and applicants — the standard of applications from TAFEs across the country was exceptional.
We're also appreciative of award sponsor Powering Skills Organisation for championing partnerships that drive real change in vocational education.
This award celebrates what happens when TAFE and industry stop talking past each other and start solving problems together — and that's exactly what we set out to do. More opportunities, better access, and real outcomes for students entering the heavy vehicle industry in WA.
But let's be honest — this has been a real team effort from day one, and that deserves to be said loud and clear.
From our CRI HVDO Lecturers across all of our regional locations out on the ground delivering the training, to our PL’s, Skills for study lecturers and those steering the ship strategically, also our incredible supporting CRI Administration Staff holding everything together behind the scenes — every single person played a part in making this a success from its inception many years ago.
And it has been a genuine learning curve for everyone involved. Getting across different truck gearboxes, understanding the nuances of Heavy Vehicle Driving Licences, and mastering an entirely new assessment process through the Department of Transport — including building relationships with Driving Assessors and learning how testing works end to end. None of that came with a manual!
Add to that the logistical challenge of scheduling training across multiple remote locations throughout Western Australia, coordinating different trucks and ensuring everything aligned for students and assessors alike — and you start to get a picture of just how much went into making this work.
The fact that our team embraced every challenge with professionalism and dedication is something to be genuinely proud of. This award belongs to all of them.
Here's to what comes next.
