Equip yourself with essential skills in local governance, conflict resolution, animal handling, and more

Rangers conduct public education and promotional initiatives, and they engage in regular and extensive training. To maintain the highest standards of competence and professionalism, it is essential that their skills and knowledge are continually updated.

Training programs encompass a variety of critical areas, including general law enforcement, prosecutions, conflict management, firefighting, animal capture and handling, reptile handling, firearms training, customer service, and first aid, among others.

It’s important to think about the key attributes and skills you may need to study and work in this field. Take a look at the essential skills and knowledge below and consider if you might face any challenges in meeting the course expectations and requirements. This will help you make an informed choice about whether this course is right for you.

Do you have a strong sense of community and harmony?  A desire to help others and be dependable?  A love of animals?  Not afraid to work in an enforcement field?  The ability to operate both independently and as part of a team?  Then a Local Government Ranger may be your calling and your career starts here.

This industry supported qualification is available in a combination of face to face skills training workshops to get you started in the industry, followed by external study (or RPL) once you gain your dream job.

The ability to communicate and deal with people effectively, manage conflict, solve problems, understand and apply legislation, work with other agencies, control emergencies, handle animals humanely and safely, and follow council policies and procedures are all key characteristics of a valuable Local Government Ranger.

In addition, if you are seeking an administrative role within Local Government, there are sufficient units being offered so that this qualification can be gained mostly through external study and workplace assessment.
