If you want to help people look and feel their best, this Certificate III in Barbering qualification will provide you with the technical skills and knowledge required to work as a barber.

You'll learn the essentials needed to work in the men's grooming industry including: 

  • designing and creating haircuts,
  • designing and maintaining beards and moustaches,
  • shaving heads and faces
  • health, safety, hygiene
  • financial and retail skills to work in a salon

It's important to think about the key attributes you are likely to need to study and work in this field.   • Have good time-management and organisational skills 
  • Practice good personal hygiene and have pride in your professional presentation  
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment 
  • Be able to personalise service to suit individuals, read social cues from clients 
  • Be comfortable with appropriate physical contact with individuals  
  • Be able to follow instructions, work health and safety procedures 
  • Be able to work with others and relate to and respect people from a range of cultures and backgrounds 
  • Be aware that the hairdressing industry involves typically full-time hours including evenings and weekends. 
  • Be in good health with no significant skin allergies  
  • Good hand-eye coordination  
  • Be able to utilise record keeping strategies and maintain privacy and confidentiality of clients 
  • Be an active listener with a good attitude and patience  
  • Have basic digital and phone skills to manage the booking systems required in a salon 
  • Sufficient physical ability to stand and/or bend for extended periods of time
  • 2026 will only be offered if you are indentured into a barbering apprenticeship
  • We won’t be offering Barbering as Face-to-face classroom in 2026
