It will give you the opportunity to acquire a range of hospitality operational skills and basic industry knowledge.
This course is half price for everyone (excl. school students) as part of the Lower Fees, Local Skills initiative. Fees are also capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession. Find out more here.

It will give you the opportunity to acquire a range of hospitality operational skills and basic industry knowledge.

- Have a high priority to food safety, cleaning and personal hygiene
- Able to manage time and work under pressure
- Able to work well in a team and be able to work with others and relate to and respect people from a range of cultures and backgrounds
- Have good time-management and organisational skills to work under pressure
- Have good communication skills to interact with others respectfully
- Be able to follow instructions, work health and safety procedures
- Sufficient physical ability to stand and/or bend for extended periods of time, holding and serving from trays and carrying multiple items
- Be comfortable interacting with all types of beverages and foods including seafood, meat, eggs, pork and nuts.
- Be aware that the hospitality industry involves typically full-time hours including evenings and weekends.
- Have literacy and numeracy skills to read and interpret menus, safety data and operational manuals.

To attain this qualification, you are required to successfully complete twelve (12) units of competence, comprising six (6) core and six (6) elective units selected from the options provided below.

- Secondary school aged persons (in 2025, students born on or after 1 July 2007 who are at least 15 years old in 2025) undertaking training that is not part of a VET Delivered to Secondary Schools program, the maximum course (tuition) fee chargeable is $420. Additional resource fees and discretionary fees may apply.
