This Skill Set is delivered over two days and integrates the units AVIY0023 Launch, Control and Recover a Remotely Piloted Aircraft and AVIW0028 Operate and Manage Remote Pilot Aircraft Systems to provide a coherent, industry-relevant pathway for individuals seeking to conduct commercial remotely piloted aircraft operations under the Excluded Category in accordance with CASR Part 101.
The training design adopts an integrated delivery and assessment model, recognising that effective RPAS operations require the simultaneous application of aircraft handling skills, systems management, situational awareness, and regulatory compliance. Both units are delivered together to reflect real-world operational practice, where launch, flight control, automation management, and abnormal or emergency response occur as part of a single, continuous operational task rather than as discrete activities.
Training places emphasis on:
- understanding and applying Standard Operating Conditions (SOC) for Excluded Category operations
- safe launch, control, and recovery of RPAS
- operation and monitoring of RPAS systems and automation
- recognition and management of abnormal and emergency situations
- risk management, situational awareness, and regulatory decision‑making
