Duration 9 Weeks
The Skill Set course has been developed to provide learners with introductory to intermediate welding and fabrication skills through practical, hands-on training in a workshop environment. It is designed to meet community demand for accessible trade-based training and to provide a pathway into further vocational education, apprenticeships, or entry-level employment within engineering and related industries.
The units equip learners with the skills and knowledge required to safely use electric welding machines and fabrication equipment to complete routine engineering tasks. Learners will develop practical skills in workshop safety, equipment operation, fabrication techniques, welding processes, measuring, marking out, and the use of engineering tools and equipment.
The course is intended for community members, job seekers, disengaged learners, school leavers, individuals exploring career pathways in engineering, and those seeking practical trade skills for personal development or employment readiness. No previous engineering experience is required.
Training is delivered in a supportive learning environment with a strong emphasis on workplace health and safety, practical skill development, and learner confidence. Learners undertake structured practical activities using industry-standard equipment under the supervision of qualified trainers.
Successful completion of the units may support progression into further VET qualifications, pre-apprenticeship programs, apprenticeships, traineeships, or entry-level employment opportunities within the engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance industries.
